[KJV] For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.

[NKJV] For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope.

[KJ21] For whatsoever things were written in times past, were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope.

[NASB] For whatever was written in earlier times was written for our instruction, so that through perseverance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.

[NRSV] For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, so that by steadfastness and by the encouragement of the scriptures we might have hope.

[ESV] For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.

[NIV] For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.

[NIrV] Even Christ did not please himself. It is written, "Those who make fun of you have made fun of me also."--(Psalm 69:9)

[HCSB] For whatever was written before was written for our instruction, so that through our endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we may have hope.

[CSB] For whatever was written before was written for our instruction, so that through our endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we may have hope.

[AMP] For whatever was thus written in former days was written for our instruction, that by [our steadfast and patient] endurance and the encouragement [drawn] from the Scriptures we might hold fast to and cherish hope.

[NLT] Such things were written in the Scriptures long ago to teach us. And the Scriptures give us hope and encouragement as we wait patiently for God's promises to be fulfilled.

[YLT] for, as many things as were written before, for our instruction were written before, that through the endurance, and the exhortation of the Writings, we might have the hope.
